This pretty much says it all.
"THIS IS MY COUNTRY. WHAT I WANT TO EXPRESS IS HERE AND I LOVE IT. AMEN" - EMILY CARR (MAY 1934)
Jackie, Wow, your paintings give me intense "homesickness." My husband and I lived in Ross River for four and a half years, Whitehorse for about 10. We used to fish for grayling in Lapie Lakes with our then teenaged daughters. It is so beautiful in the Yukon. I can remember feeling so beautifully far away from everything there. Now, my parents are getting older and I can't be so far away from them. But I miss it still. Some of the best years of my life were spent there. Love your work. Keep on painting.
Hi Angela; My first 10 paintings in the 100 in a 100 are of the South Canol. Lapie is such a beautiful alpine lake and we camped there a lot when my kids were younger, the fishing is great too! Our acreage is on the Magundy River about 30 km outside of Faro and the river runs into Little Salmon Lake. We lived down south for a winter in 2006 and I really noticed there was a different energy down there - I missed the Yukon It's kind of special up- it's like we are in a different world; there's not a lot of people and lots of wilderness. I love living here because it is so good for my creative process. Thanks for your comments - maybe you can come for a vacation in the years to come.
I appreciate the feedback. My hundred is coming to an end soon, I am not sure what my next project will be. But I have really enjoyed this one so there definitely will be another.
