Yukon Aspens

Fall Aspens near Fisheye Lake
Original Acrylic on Stretched Canvas
Size 16x20
Sold

I worked on this piece the last few days.   I love the Aspens in the Yukon.  The golden leaves light up the landscape.  My next painting I will paint the bottoms of the trees to get the lovely reds from the cranberry bushes or fireweed.

Painting on a Larger Scale

Sunset on LIttle Salmon
Original Watercolour and Ink
4"x6"

I recently received a commission to do this painting but on a much larger scale.  This is essentially a thumbnail of 4 inches by 6 inches. I have painted literally hundreds of paintings this size. The washes are so easy as they are just a "swish" of the brush. I have stretched out a piece of arches watercolour paper that will measure 20 inches by 30 inches. I hope to  somewhat capture the same place.  It definitely does create some challenges for me like:  Doing washes this big take skill and speed.  I will have to really plan that out.  Also, I have not been painting in watercolour lately so feel a bit rusty.   I will post my results next week as the painting will be done by this weekend.

Seniors Outdoor Painting Week 6

This week we decided to paint something with rocks. Our Landscape is of Lapie Canyon.  We were outside for this class and the bugs were fierce! This workshop has always been about getting out, being social and having fun and it has definitely been that.  I notice that the "regulars"  are becoming more comfortable with the acrylic medium.  Now they are starting to pick up on technique and composition, value and colour mixing.  We also gessoed our canvas with a warm orange tint so they could see how it adds to the painting.

Ross River Art and Recreation Workshop

Our workshop today was attended by some elders and a grand daughter it was a very relaxed and fun time painting.  The subject for painting was a moose on a small canvas using acrylic paint.  We had a break with snack which was Carrot Cake and Fresh Fruit.
Class is held at the Hope Centre in Ross River.

Faro Seniors Outdoor Painting Week 5

This week we painted small Landscapes of the Yukon River on Canvas using acrylic paint.  We had started in painting on the Interpretive Centre Deck and the rain came.  We moved inside and the sun came out.  It was a great turn-out this week with 12 people attending and their paintings are shown below.  We have so much fun, about half way through we have our break where we do our stretches and some exercise followed by a healthy snack which was nachos, salsa, avocado, fruit and strawberry whipped cream cake.

Katy was not quite finished but we asked her to put it in anyway

Hiking from the Robert Campbell

Original Acrylic on Canvas
16x20
Thomas Creek Valley View
This is across the road from where I live on the Magundy River
on the Robert Campbell Highway.  I went for a hike early last fall with my friend Nina Toeller and my husband Jeff.  There were storm clouds in the distance and the quivering Aspen looked so lovely in contrast.

Alpine Lake on the South Canol

Lapie Lakes
Original Acrylic on Canvas
8x10

This is my favourite Camping spot in the Yukon.  The drive along the South Canol Highway affords some of the most spectacular scenery of mountains, valleys and beautiful alpine lakes. I have fond memories of camping here with my children when they were younger.
