Northern Lights 2015

I decided to do some small studies of Northern Lights in watercolour, gauche, ink, soft pastel - a mixed media.  I saw the Aurora Borealis in the night sky for the first time this fall outside my cabin for quite a few nights in a row.  I always welcome back the night skies of stars and northern lights after a long summer of midnight sun, this is a land of extremes at times, but there is so much beauty in each season.

Rose Hips Autumn 2015
I spent some time last week painting small images of Autumn from around my place.  The leaves are pretty much gone but the rosehips were a brilliant red with the pond behind them. I could not resist painting them.  Both paintings are 5x7 matted and framed in an 8x10 frame.

I have not worked with watercolour for some time.  It does take practice to get back into the technique.  I have a small series of Northern Lights as well that I completed that will be in another post.
