Painting with oils would definitely present some challenges with taking photos what with the drying time and all. Acrylics dry so fast. Interesting question - think both photos do not truly represent the painting. The true colour is about half way between the two. The night time photo is too cool and the day time is a little warmer than the original. One thing I have started doing is not putting the gloss medium on until after the photo is taken for the blog because I noticed in the first week that there was definitely a glare.
When I paint outdoors at my property out of town ( 8 acres on the Magundy River )- the lane is approx. a km long to drive to the yardsite
If I meander off into the bush to paint - I take my Ruger 44 Magnum with me. It is a carbine (small rifle) 44 that has a sling and I set down by me within reach wherever I am painting. Some people take pepper spray and I also have an air horn which makes a really loud noise. I only saw a bear once when I was alone once but it was across the river and as soon as it saw me it disappeared. You are not always seeing the bears but they are definitely there - grizzly and black bears.J Dowell-Irvinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07350108607743044816noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6204854438608303992.post-75139051671435907162011-11-11T21:46:37.540-08:002011-11-11T21:46:37.540-08:00Hello Again! The previous painting you commented about the difference between the daylight photo and indoors photo, which is closest to the actual painting? I have problems getting that right, you would think that daylight would produce a truer light but for me not always, also reflections are a problem, people have suggested filters etc etc, but the best results I have found have been from a scan, but of course I have to wait until the painting is at least touch dry.

Yes we are in very different places but we are looking for the same things to paint. Am fascinated by the place you live and paint, when you are painting outdoors are you always looking over your shoulder for bears!nigelfletcherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13999182460609236573noreply@blogger.com
